About WiBrief — Intelligence, Agency and Possibility

WIBRIEF / OUR STORY

Explore what becomes possible.

WiBrief is an independent space for exploring intelligence, human agency and the systems shaping our future. We turn complex ideas into research, stories and interactive experiences that help people understand what’s changing—and what choices are still ours to make.

Where we began

Before it was WiBrief, this project was WiredBrief: an experiment in connecting emerging technologies with the people, institutions and everyday questions they affect. Early research explored self-driving vehicles, automation, road traffic law, algorithmic bias and the implications of transferring responsibility to machines.

That original question has only become more relevant. As AI moves from answering questions towards acting through tools and complete workflows, the boundaries of agency, authority and accountability have become central to how technology should be designed.

WiBrief is evolving beyond a conventional technology publication. The archive remains part of its story, while a new interactive Lab makes ideas tangible: visitors can explore models, change assumptions and examine consequences rather than simply read about them.

How we explore

Research

Connect original ideas with primary sources, practical experience and historical context. Distinguish evidence from interpretation and speculation.

Experiment

Build interactive models and visual simulations that reveal how systems respond when decisions, constraints or incentives change.

Connect

Bring different disciplines and perspectives into conversation, with space to question prevailing assumptions and explore unexpected possibilities.

Our editorial principles

  • Curiosity over certainty: ask difficult questions and change our minds when the evidence changes.
  • Human consequences first: examine who benefits, who carries risk and who retains a meaningful choice.
  • Show the assumptions: explain when an interactive experience is a conceptual model rather than a prediction or validated assessment.
  • Make ideas useful: favour understandable, testable experiences over novelty for its own sake.

Start exploring

Begin with our AI autonomy and human agency research hub, then enter the interactive Autonomy Atlas to follow evidence through coordinated specialist analysis and human review. The Advisory Intelligence System is an alternative entry to the same simulation, trace the foundations in our original work on autonomous driving, or browse earlier publications.
